The Turkish Marine Research has played a crucial role in the development of polar science in Turkey, by providing financial support and lobbying for advancement. As the common heritage of humankind, this continent deserves protection for its highly vulnerable ecosystems. The author asserts that this continent and the surrounding marine areas should be designated as a marine protected area in perpetuity.
