Proposals for Protected Areas in the Marmara Sea
TUDAV's Proposals for Protected Areas in the Marmara Sea
TUDAV proposes that the Marmara Archipelago and the Istanbul Islands (Princes' Islands), due to their rich ecological units and habitats, serve as a stepping stone in terms of species and genetic diversity between the Aegean, Marmara, and Black Seas. Therefore, the areas within the maps provided in the appendix should be closed to all types of fishing except angling and trawling, and declared as protected areas under the Convention on Biological Diversity, the EU Habitat Directive, and Natura 2000, as they are considered SENSITIVE areas (Maps 1 and 2).
