Let's Clean Up Europe!
On May 10, 2014, volunteers from European countries will come together for the "Let's Clean Up Europe!" event to draw attention to litter in the streets, parks, forests, and beaches.
The “Let’s Clean Up Europe!” campaign was launched as part of the LIFE+ project “European Waste Reduction Week” (EWWR) with the support of the European Commission’s Environment Commissioner, Janez Potocnik (www.letscleanupeurope.eu). Organized by the Association for Environmental Communication (AICA) and linked to EWWR, the main goal of this campaign is to combat waste production, prevent haphazard disposal, and raise awareness about reducing waste. The event, which will take place simultaneously across European countries on May 10, 2014, is also referred to as the “1st European Cleanup Day”.
This event is attended by European Union (EU) member states such as Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, as well as non-EU member states such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey.
In Turkey, the event is coordinated by the Turkish Marine Research Foundation (TÜDAV).
